artgroup.

So I have a little artgroup that meets once a month to talk about art and share ideas. I really want to kick it up a notch and do something fun but I can never get it together. I have difficulty thinking of something to do, think about ideas too late, can't ever find a new location, can't get ahold of certain people (that tell me to contact them, ahem) or just forget about it. what a lousy leader. Anyhoo... if anyone can think of something fun to do as a group or someplace to meet that's free, different or has space to do a project - let me know! I'd love to do something outside but it's dark by the time we meet. hmm.... I'll keep brainstorming...

I wonder if I just brought in some objects to do a still life sketch, if people would be into it?

Fled the Cube.

I think there's a limit to how long you can sit staring at your computer screen. I've been testing that theory lately. I love working from home and working for myself but I've definitely learned that I have to break up the day or I'll slip slowly into madness. Here are some of the fabulous things about being a freelancing individual:

1. I can work all day in my slippers.
2. If I forget to brush my hair or wear deodorant, my cleanliness isn't called into question.
3. I can blast music and sing whilst I work.
4. I am mobile. I can work anywhere. (Well, anywhere until my battery dies or has a power source)
5. My schedule is at MY command! Bwah-ha-ha.
6. I never have to do anything I really don't want to do. (Except pay taxes)
7. I don't have to answer to anyone. (Except my clients, but that's easy)
8. I can write off my vacations, my computer, my photography equipment, etc!
9. I never feel like I'm "working".
10. I can never say, "what if?"

Now, yes the 3rd day of being home alone with nothing but your thoughts and the dogs barking at cars, neighbors and birds do take it's toll. I read in a David Sedaris book recently that his opinion is that we're all one step away from the loony bin. I can say that with confidence I believe that and I can give you a recipe for it.

So things that have been happening recently are: I'm going to be the featured artist for Mitchell's Coffeehouse downtown Lakeland for the month of February (meet the artist reception 2/6/09 from 6-9pm), I applied to be in the Lake Wales art show (fingers crossed), I was asked by a boutique in LA to showcase some of my artwork there and I sold one of my paintings to a couple in San Francisco!

I've also been working on a web design for Parker Street Ministries and helping Victory update their website. Here's a little taste of what the PSM website is going to look like:

I really had a lot of fun with this design and was happy that the client allowed me to go all out with creativity. I'll post when their site is complete and running. I hope you all are doing well!

ps. Thank you Fred for teaching me some Illustrator skills. You rock.
