wedding photos

A few weeks ago I helped a friend shoot a wedding. I was in charge of getting the details of the day. Here are some of the shots that I got:

In case you couldn't tell, it was a very pink wedding. ha. The bride was super cute though and was just the happiest person on the planet. A really sweet couple.

Art Show!

This Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm is the Lake Wales Art Show in Lake Wales, Florida. I'm very excited to be a part of it as it is my first large scale show. I have a professional tent with walls and I just got my sign today for the tent. I am hoping for some sales and/or a ribbon! For those that haven't been to the Lake Wales show, it's similar in size and stature to the MayFair show, only not as hot! We should have good weather for this one and it's all covered in shade. So if you're in town this weekend, you should come to this free show.

This weekend is also the acceptance for the Blanc et Noir show at Arts on the Park. I'm excited about this show because most of my work is black and white so it fits into the category. I have one piece that I know for sure I'm submitting but I need help deciding on the others. (You can submit up to 3). I am leaning towards photographs because I some of my prints I have multiples of and if I submit it for this show, it will miss the Lake Wales show.

Exciting times! Here's to showing and selling art!

Here's what the Lake Wales Arts Council has to say about the show:
The critically acclaimed Lake Wales Art Show is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 28 & 29, 2009 from 10 AM to 5 PM both days. The outdoor festival features more than 125 artists from around the nation and abroad and receives 30,000 visitors annually from throughout the South. Buyers and lookers can stroll the “walk of art” under a canopy of oak and sky on the shores of Lake Wailes, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Lake Wailes National Audubon birding trail.

The Lake Wales Art Show distinguishes itself by finding talented new artists as well as those who have become nationally renowned. Exhibits feature exceptional examples of fine arts and crafts, including painting in acrylic, oil, watercolor, and mixed media as well as basketry, sculpture, photography, pottery, glass, jewelry, ceramics and more. The variety of media and style offers something of interest for every level of collector.

This year’s special exhibitor is Ruby C. Williams, who is a folk artist and a native of Bealsville, A traditional and historic African American town in Hillsborough County near Plant City. Ruby began her career as an artist in the 1980’s while running a small roadside produce stand. She made bright signs of strawberries, watermelons and the like that helped her advertise her produce. Her customers loved her artwork and soon began buying just as much artwork as produce. Now, Ruby’s work can be found in the Smithsonian Museum for African American History and Culture as well as in private collections and galleries all over the world. Her work features bright colors and often has messages that are descriptive or religious. Please stop and take a look at her artwork when you visit the show.

Live musical entertainment, specialty foods and an exciting children’s activity area make for an experience that whole family will enjoy. Encourage the budding artists in your child with paints, glue, glitter, and other supplies to create a hangs-on creative session. The children’s are area is under the auspice of Mr. Rick Olivo.

All are invited to this free event (no admission fee and no charge for parking). The event is an annual, juried art show produced by a volunteer committee of the Lake Wales Arts Council, Inc. with more than 200 volunteers from the community. Bring the family and meet your friends at the 38th Annual Lake Wales Art Show.

Directions to the Arts Show: From I-4, take US Highway 27 South and turn left onto Central Avenue, which leads directly to Lake Wailes, turn left. From SR 60, take US Highway 27 North 1 block, turn right onto Central Avenue to Lake Wailes, turn left. Free parking will be available on either side of the art show site.

An invitation.

So hopefully this won't spoil anything (I think Teresa is the only one that reads my blog) but I wanted to post an invitation that I made for her son's adoption. It's so cute. I definitely stole the look from a previous invitation that she chose for the inspiration, but I still think it's cute. I would love to see it professionally printed with an embossing on the tree.

I also ordered a few more prints for the Arts on the Park Black and White show and the Lake Wales art show I'm in. I ordered one of the prints on a Fine Art Paper which was quite a bit more money, but I'm hoping the quality is worth it. We'll see.

This week is full of finishing projects and church design work. It should be good and productive. I did leave my cell phone in Winter Haven today so I will be relying on email for the next day or two. Geesh. What did we do before we could be reached in 92 different ways?

On a personal note, I went and saw my Grandpa today. It is his birthday. He is now 88 years old. I asked him how he and my grandma met and he told me that they met when he was 21 and she was 17 at a skating rink in Illinois. About 6 months later he was sent to Charleston to be shipped out to war and he asked her to join him. While they were there, they decided to get married and went to a pastor's home and had him marry them. They were married for 62 years before my grandmother passed away. He told me the story with a slight smile from the memories and tears in his eyes. I hope that I can be married for 62 years and know a love that lasts that long. That still lasts. Here's to you, grandpa. I love you!

Thursday

Jason and I went to the beach last friday. Here are some pictures I took. I am LOVING this weather. It's so gorgeous.

I've been working on a sign for my artist tent. Here's what I came up with:

new logo.

So I've been working on a logo for a friend of mine. She is a massage therapist and is primarily focusing on prenatal massage. Here's my favorite of what I designed:

I've also been working on a sign for my tent for the Lake Wales Art fair. Why is designing for yourself SO hard?! Ugh. I need to get it finished soon too.

I also heard back from Penny Carothers (all you Blue Like Jazz fans know who I'm talking about) from an article that I sent in to Burnside Writers Collective. She said that if I rework it a little bit, she'd like to post it in the general section of their website! I'm stoked because their website has GREAT postings. It would be fun to say that I had an article posted there.

Anyway, I've been at home alone all day and it's starting to get to me. I'm debating on whether to have a glass of wine and watch my blockbuster.com flick or get out of the house. Hmmm...

latest work.

So I cranked this out in 3 hours today and I really like how it came out. I wanted to share.

It's going to be printed on a thick linen finish sateen paper and have a ribbon around the top part. I'm sad that little details didn't come out in this upload, but you get the idea...

ps. artgroup ruled last night.

So...

I finally scanned the Polk Voice Article so I thought I'd post it if you were interested...

I was also going through a magazine and fell in love with this ad:

I think this will be the inspiration for some graphic design in the future. I love the layers and vintage look.

Also tomorrow is the last day that my art will be up at Mitchell's Coffeehouse. I'm a bit sad to take it down but very grateful for the month that I was able to show there. Thanks to everyone for their kind words! (and if you haven't seen it yet, go down there tomorrow and check it out!) Thankfully I have been added to their annual list, so I'll be showing there for a full month each year. I'm very grateful for the opportunity and I'm excited to show at the Lake Wales Art show later this month.

I've been thinking that with everything that I do, I love creating art the most but it's what I spend the least amount of time on. (Graphic design eats up my day - mainly because it pays the bills). I was just offered somewhat of a more "part-time" job which is great because it guarantees cash flow coming in but it will fill my schedule Tuesday - Thursday. I think I'm going to stop taking several graphic design clients and work mainly on my art Mondays and Fridays. It will be a great way to start and end the week. Of course I'll still do those fun projects when certain clients call (fred). I guess I just want to make sure that I'm really trying to give my art a go... and not have it always take a backseat to things that make me money. Who knows, if I really put my heart, soul and energy into it, maybe it will turn the tables.
